Advertising on Facebook—a new experience!

Written by Kathryn Spira

So it was just last Tuesday and I had just gotten out of the shower, when my aide Alee joined me on the bed with her phone in hand saying she had a wonderful idea.

The thing is, I was looking for a part-time aide to do fill-in hours and she thought the best way to do this was to advertise on Facebook.

We put our heads together and came up with what we thought was an original text/advertisement.

What really surprised me was that almost immediately we got some responses. And within ten minutes we had some appointments set up for interviews.

I used some rather colorful language to describe myself so prospective applicants would know what they are getting themselves into. I did not want to just put that I was a wheelchair bound women in need of an aide and I wanted to somehow describe my outgoing and vivacious personality in just a few words. We scheduled some interviews but as it turns out those interviewees canceled the appointments.

However, Alee suggested that her life long friend Cassie come in for an interview. Cassie came the following day, spent some time getting to know me, I described the job to her with Alee's help and she seems to be a very viable person for the job. I'm in the process now of waiting for some necessary paperwork to be signed and for Cass to get her physical.

I was glad to have the experience of advertising on Facebook, but as it turns out I met and hired Cassie through Alee. She should start working within the next week or so. I'll let you all know how it goes. Until then, pray for sunny days, warm weather, and completely melted snow. They say Monday and Tuesday this week will be in the 70s. Bring it on!
